The tragic shooting of Newtown, CT took place on Friday morning December 14, 2012 in Sandy Hook Elementary School. Twenty innocent children and seven adult's lives were taken on that day. One armed gunmen let out an open fire one after another, taking one life after another without even hesitating. No sign of why this very tragic shooting to place but it has really hit home with many. It's an awful shame that such innocent lives had to be takin on that day, lets just hope something like this never happens again.

The article is about how this young man says he no longer needs his last name. He talks about how he wants to change his last name and why. He also talks about how his last name has no meaning to him and that he wants to have a last name that justifies who he is. If I could change my name I wouldn't change my last name only my first name. I would change the spelling to my first name to like KC instead of Casey because there are two Casey Burners and I hate it. Everyone always calls me the other Casey or always gets us confused. People only tell us apart due to our middle initial.

I think it's crazy how many people have been dismissed from the army due to obesity. I don't disagree with the fact that they've been dismissed because of being over weight. All who take part in the armed forces should always have to be in shape. The only thing that I found crazy about it is how many people in the army are over weight & are being dismissed.

I believe it is citizen incivility because we as citizens shouldn't be worried about snapping photos of someone who is in need of help or who has been in a accident. We should take part in trying to help someone out who needs a hand or who has been in an accident rather than pulling out our phones and snapping a photo of them. I agree when they say people are just worried about feeding our social networks with capturing shocking videos and pictures.

The good thing about it would be the students would learn more and benefit from it by getting through school faster. The not fun part would be having to go extra time because some kids may not like the idea nor parents.

2. In the article they talk about how lottery sales have increased due to the amount of the powerball!

3. If I won the powerball I'd do so many things with the money. First, I would pay for all my medical expenses from when I first got diagnosed with diabetes. I would then help my parents out, also of my family members who needed help. I would then put some money back for my kids future. After, all that I'd go shopping and buy somethings to spoil myself. I believe the baby boxes are awful and beyond a bad idea. It is showing women that its ok to have a baby and drop it off to the baby boxes. Women who take part in these baby boxes should be punished for abandoning a child they carried for 9 months. If they don't want to have a baby then maybe they shouldn't be sexually active and take some responsibility.

Social Awreness 9/25/12

To whom it may concern,

I am writing you with the intention of grabbing your attention and focusing it on bullying that is really hitting everyone all over the world. I am a student at Philip Barbour High School located in Philippi, West Virginia. My school is a victum of past and current bullying. The bullying that takes part in my school is no where close to other schools in America but I feel as a student, in years to come it will be just as bad but worse.
I can relate to the bullying situation in two ways because I myself have been a bully and also a victum of bullying. I believe that everyone has been their own bully in some way even if they don't believe or recall they have. I was a bully and still today at times I am, I don't like to be bully nor do I want to be known as one but we all act before we speak or speak before we think. Being a victum of bullying myself made me realize what I was putting others through so I am doing the best I can to make a difference and not be a bully.
I can tell you being a victum of bullying can lead you to depression, avoiding everyone, being upset, counseling and many more things. Nobody realizes the things that drives a human being to do the things they have or do when they have been bullied. I think if everyone took a turn in somebody else's shoes they would change their whole outlook on bullying. I also believe if everyone took the chance to get to know someone before they judge them and get to know their past, they'd understand bullying isn't the way to go.
Honestly, you take a step back and think of a time you have bullied someone or been a victum of bullying and think how you felt about it. I bet looking back remembering you bullied someone you feel pretty crappy inside and wish you could take what you said or did back. As for looking back to when you were a victum of bullying, I bet you wish you could of hit them or even told them off but no you just remembered how put down you were. Bullying should be put to a complete hault and people should be ashamed of themselves when they take part in bullying.
Nobody no matter what they case may be deserves to be a victum of bullying. We should all as one learn to respect one another and learn to pick everyone up instead of kicking them down. I hope that one day myself that I can stop bullying or somebody else can. So by me writing you this letter, I am hoping this is the start of a new beginning. I want everyone to take a stand against bullying and not just sit back and let it happen. So let's get a start now and stop bullying! Thank you for taking your own time to sit down and read my letter, I hope you decide to take a stand against bullying.

Sincerely,
Casey L. Burner

I totally agree with all the other students when they say they are still hungry after eating lunch. I mean come on they serve us the same portion size as preschool kids, get real. We are high school students and some of us have big appetites and want more than we are served. I believe they have takin school lunch sizes to a whole completely crazy level that is not necessary. They need to realize that school lunches and breakfasts are the only meals some students get. I also believe it's not the school food that makes our students overweight, it's what they do after they get out of school and on the weekends.

BR 9/26/12

I think retired military leaders are being ridiculous about junk food in schools. Obviously students want to eat that type of food or they wouldn't buy it. In my personal opinion I think if they choose to eat it then that's their choice not other peoples.

BR 9/25/12

I don't believe in dispensing the morning-after pill out to young girls at the age of 14 especially if they haven't even been sexually active. They shouldn't even been allowed to dispense this because the parenets should have the say in it.

I believe Romney is in the wrong when he talks about veterans, disabled people and etc needing to pay taxes. I believe if you truely can't work and are disabled then you shouldn't have to pay taxes nor if your a veteran. I also believe Obama is in the wrong increasing middle-class taxes. He needs to realize many are out of work that are middle-class and cant afford living today the way it is.

3. examine how much privacy one has in the digital age we live. Write a paragraph

In the digital age that we live in today, we are constantly exposing our personal information online. From using cell phones and GPS devices to online shopping and sending e-mail, the things we do and say online leave behind ever-growing trails of personal information. The ACLU believes that Americans shouldn’t have to choose between using new technology and keeping control of your private information. Each week, we feature some of the most interesting news related to technology and civil liberties that we’ve spotted from the previous week.

4. research the patriot act and summarize it in a paragraph.

The Patriot Act is a law passed by Congress in 2001 in wake of 9/11. Among the many, many provisions on the Patriot Act, Congress passed laws making it a crime to attack, threaten to attack, or attempt to attack any modes of mass transportation, a crime punishable for up to 20 years or — if a passenger lost a life — life imprisonment. The Patriot Act also makes it a crime to commit any dangerous or illegal acts on U.S. soil with the intention to intimidate or coerce the government or a government official; to posses a weapon of mass destruction; hack into a government computer system; or give financial assistance to identified terrorist groups.

5. write a paragraph detailing if the patriot act is a violation of the first amendment

I believe everyone has a right to put humor in their speech. As long as they get their point across in their speech and time for humor then it is ok to be humorous.

Bellringer #1: I don't think anyone should judge someone for being with the same sex. And I don't believe in taking or adjusting the second admendment from us U.S citizens. And as for medicare and social security well I don't know what to say about that one.

Bellringer #2: I think that the nation should stop thinking about taking away gun rights because in my book people kill people not guns!

Bellringer #3: If Nixon was still alive he would be a democrat.

I believe the new security fingerprint system is a little over rated. I mean i understand it could be safer for inmates and easier for the facility to handle but I don't believe this is rally necessary.

BR 9/4/12

I believe that a kid should only get a dollar at the most for a tooth they lose. As a kid I only got a quarter or dollar at the most for a tooth I lost. And the app for iPad's and iPhone's is totally unnecessary because if you need an app to show you how much your kid needs for a tooth, well that's just crazy!

I believe that hurricane Isaac is another major tragedy. I believe that people should take this hurricane more seriously than they are. But in my own opinion I believe that once this tragedy is over people should help them as much as they can.

I believe faking your own death is a crime because you're making false information. I don't believe it's right at all to fake your own death because it is just plain out stupid! You are basically leaving without having to pay anything besides for your food, gas or etc. Just faking your own death is like for real dumb and def a crime!

federalist or anti-federalist 8/28/12

1. Who are you? How old are you in 1787?
I am George Washington and I am 55 years old.

2. Are you Federalist or Anti-Federalist
I am a Federalist and I support the Constituion.

3. What is your personal history up to 1787?
In 1753, I got sent on a dangerous mission to take a letter to Fort Le Beouf. On July 3, 1775, I took command of the Continental Army. Then on December 26, 1776 I through a surprise party. And on May 1787 State Representatives wanted someone to lead America and decided I was the right guy.

4. What was your role in the Constitutional Convention?
I arrived May 25 and was present through the signing of the Constitution. I spoke only once near the end of the deliberations, I had a profound influence on the scope and direction of the discussions. The delegates elected me to preside over the Convention.

5. What stated views would explain your actions during the Constitutional Convention?
I participated little in the debates but my high prestige maintained collegiality and kept the delegates at their labors.
"There are four things, which I humbly conceive, are essential to the well being, I may even venture to say, to the existence of the United States as an independent power:
  1. An indissoluble union of the states under one federal head.
  2. A sacred regard to public justice.
  3. The adoption of a proper peace establishment.
  4. The prevalence of that pacific and friendly disposition among the people of the United States which will induce them to forget their local prejudices and policies, to make those mutual concessions which are requisite to the general prosperity, and in some instances, to sacrifice their individual advantages to the interest of the community."

6. What is your stance during the ratifying conventions? Who supports your viewpoint?
The delegates designed the presidency with myself in mind, and allowed me to define the office once elected. After the Convention, my support convinced many to vote for ratification, the new Constitution was ratified by all thirteen states. The delegates supported my viewpoint.

7. What are your views of this new plan of government? What are the benefits or dangers?

I believe he should still have the right to pray. Just because he aided doesn't mean he deserve to lose his right to pray. His religious views shouldn't even be part of his punishment.

8/27/12 BR

I believe this is a religious discrimination because they don't allow her to wear what her religious views supports. If they had told her it was ok that she wear the skirt then they shouldn't of made a big deal out of it when she showed up in it. They should be more worried about letting her work then a skirt she is wearing. What you believe in religiously is what you believe in not what others need to approve of.
